(MICHIGAN CITY) - A Laporte County couple is suing the county auditor because they feel the formula for deriving their property taxes is in error.
Bill and Dalia Wendt say they may be asked to pay more than $150,000 dollars in property taxes this year and say the assessor's office has failed to produce assessment and sales data from the last ten years to justify its increases in the value of the couple's home.
Assessor Carol McDaniel says her office has not refused any requests and maintains the Wendts have confused the office with respect to what documents they seek.
