Donation To Go To Outreach Programs

Last updated on Thursday, March 22, 2007

(INDIANAPOLIS) - There was a major donation Wednesday to Indianapolis Metro Police.

Mike and Debbie Laird are the parents of officer Jake Laird, who was killed in the line of duty in the summer of 2004. The Lairds presented checks from the Jake Laird Foundation.

Officials say the money will go toward outreach programs. Mike laird says giving the checks out was a no brainer because he says his son "was a big kid at heart."

Laird, along with several other officers, responded to reports of a gunman outside a home on August 16th, 2004. Laird was killed and several other officers were wounded.

Mike Laird says the foundation has also given money to help other officers injured in the line of duty, including officer Michael Antonelli, who was shot in the face.

The annual Jake Laird Foundation Golf Tournament is slated for late September.
