(GREENWOOD) - A Greenwood elementary school teacher removed from her class after allegations she’d hit an eight-year old autistic child has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
The woman works at Creek Side Elementary School and was on paid leave for two days as an internal investigation was completed.
Schools Superintendent William Patterson says the woman's personnel file will not reflect the grievance, which was filed by a visiting nurse working at the school. The nurse had complained the teacher held the girl down, forced her to eat and slapped her hands.
Six witnesses testified the teacher was merely stopping the girl from compulsively scratching her skin.
