(MARION) - The man who admits beheading a fiberglass statue of Garfield in Marion by giving it a hug has received his sentence.
23-year old Joseph Savarino's sentence is light, in part because the statue was not made to specifications.
Savarino grabbed the cartoon cat around the neck, causing the orange and black striped head to detach. When a repair company looked at the statue, it found the neck area was not properly reinforced.
Savarino has been ordered to make two hundred dollars restitution, serve a year of probation and devote 40 hours to community service.
