(INDIANAPOLIS) - Today, Gregory Pearson is scheduled to plead guilty and be sentenced, after he was allegedly caught trying to solicit sex from a minor, via the internet.
Thanks to the popularity of TV shows like "Dateline NBC: To Catch A Predator," law enforcement agencies across the nation are doing similar internet stings. Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi says his offices' on line stings have gained enough attention that a production company wants to do a pilot for a TV show for Court TV.
Brizzi says while their operations are on-going, law enforcement "cannot do enough" to protect children from internet predators. Brizzi says, in their latest sting, 16 men were arrested. He says, in some cases, men are driving hundreds of miles to meet what they think is a teenaged girl or boy.
Brizzi also says one of the most recent arrests involved a man who asked the decoy, "is this one of those internet sting operations?" the decoy replied, "quit trippin, man."
