(ELWOOD) - A group fighting to place a copy of the Ten Commandments on the lawn of the Anderson City Hall has settled for a monument in the county’s second biggest city.
A monument to the Christian directions given to Moses in the bible now sits on the lawn of the Elwood YMCA, courtesy of a group called the Ten Commandments Committee. The YMCA donated a seven-foot-wide piece of property to the group for the stated purpose of erecting the monument.
Plans to put such a display on the city hall lawn in Anderson failed after the American Civil Liberties Union threatened to sue the group. That project was eventually shifted to a public park.
