(INDIANAPOLIS) - A 19-year-old good samaritan is being credited with stopping a runaway carriage that had been struck by an alleged drunk driver in Downtown Indianapolis.
IMPD Sergeant Matt Mount says 46-year-old Timothy Carlson struck the carriage around 5:00PM Sunday, causing the carriage driver to be thrown from the front seat. That's when 19-year-old William Basler sprang into action, chasing the spooked horses and bringing them to stop by pulling on the reigns.
Basler credits his father, who used to give carriage rides, with teaching him how to handle horses.
The carriage driver and two passengers were treated for minor injuries. Carlson was arrested for DUI, possession of a controlled substance, and operating without a license.
