(BLUFFTON) - A man on the lam from the Wells County jail for nearly three decades has been returned to his cell.
Bruce Culpher was part of an inmate uprising which overpowered but did not hurt then-sheriff Paul Gerwig. The rest of the escapees were caught, but Culpher eluded authorities until Wednesday, when he was arrested on an outstanding warrant from 1978.
Authorities contacted Gerwig and offered him the chance to ride with Culpher as he was returned to a northeast Indiana jail cell. Gerwig accepted and the two talked about old times during the ride.
