(UNDATED) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has declared May 20th - 26th as Emerald Ash Borer Awareness Week.
The week is an effort to educate people on the effects of the beetle on ash trees and how to prevent its spread.
Jodie Ellis is the exotic insects education coordinator at Purdue University's Department of Entomology. Ellis says the emerald ash borer is a beetle native to Asia that gets its name from its brilliant green color.
Officials discovered the bug in the Michigan area in the 1990s and believe it was moved to the U.S.
