(INDIANAPOLIS) - A 23-year- old Indianapolis man is facing murder charges for allegedly stabbing and dismembering his girlfriend.
23-year-old Joshua Bean was scheduled to stand trial next Monday on a domestic-battery charge involving 20 year old Heather Norris.
Now, police say Bean admitted to killing and dismembering Norris. Police say it was the second time he'd been charged with battering her, and the third time a domestic-violence report had been filed.
A protective order issued late last year was still in place, but police say Norris had returned to Bean on her own.
Julie Lash is interim director of the center for counseling at IUPUI. She says the distancing from family and friends is often a major red flag in an abusive relationship.
Lash says there are many red flags to look for, including cycles of abuse and unexplained injuries. She says family and friends must act as listeners when the victim wants to talk. Lash says, often times, the abuse isn't physical, but mental, and you "cannot see the scars from that."
