(NEW CASTLE) - After more than a month without any answers, officials with the Henry County Prosecutor’s Office say they have the man they believe set fire to the only Catholic church in New Castle.
St. Anne Parish went up in flames the day before Easter, sending parishioners to a nearby school to celebrate the holiday.
According to court papers, 33-year-old William Abbott allegedly bragged to a couple people about setting the blaze. Investigators also say his fingerprints were found on some items inside the church.
Court documents also say Abbott allegedly confessed, claiming he set the fire to cover up a burglary.
