(UNDATED) - A spring storm roared across northwest Indiana Tuesday and caused power outages for about 52,000 electric customers.
The hardest hit areas were Gary, Hammond, LaPorte and Valparaiso.
The strong winds also ripped the roof of a daycare center, but firefighters were able to move the children to a church. No one was injured.
A lightning strike also caused a fire in an apartment building in Schererville.
