(MADISON) - The Department of Environmental Management has extended a no-contact order for the Ohio River downstream from Madison.
I-DEM first issued an order nearly two weeks ago to fishermen, boaters and water skiers to stay out of the water, after a malfunction at Madison's sewage treatment plant.
Spokesman Steve Polston says the river still isn't safe. If you do come into contact with the water, you should take a shower with plenty of soap and water as soon as possible.
Polston says there's no telling at this point how long the order will continue, or whether the city will face fines for violating pollution limits.
