(LAWRENCE) - It was a police action shooting… that wasn’t. It was almost two weeks ago that Lawrence Primus fled from a routine traffic stop on the northwest side of town.
A chase ensued and Primus opened fire on the two officers chasing him near 29th and Harding. Indy Metro Police found Primus dead inside the car.
Now, Marion County Coroner Dr. Kenneth Ackles says Primus died from what appears to be a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Police still aren't sure why Primus fled from the traffic stop, but they do say he had a criminal record.
The two officers involved, Officer Andrew Deddish and Lieutenant Marshall Depew, remain on "desk duty," pending the outcome of the internal investigation.
