(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Marion County Jail is no longer under federal supervision.
A lawsuit over jail overcrowding was filed back in 1972. Federal Judge Sarah Evans barker released a written order yesterday lifting a federal cap on the jail population.
ACLU of Indiana Legal Director Ken Falk says he did not object to ending the lawsuit because the entire Marion County justice system helped solve the problems.
But Falk says Marion County Sheriff Frank Anderson can not control the intake of prisoners by himself. He says if conditions worsen once again, a new lawsuit could be filed.
