(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana’s tourism office has launched an internet vote to pick Hoosiers’ favorite in-state destinations.
Tourism officials picked two nominees from each of Indiana's six tourism regions, from Amish country to Holiday World.
Through next Friday, websurfers at the "Visit Indiana" website can vote for their three favorites. Tourism Director Amy Vaughan says the website draws more than a million visitors a year--she hopes the contest will boost interest further.
After the vote, the site will host an essay contest, with the three best winning free trips to their favorite getaway among the finalists. Winners will also receive a camcorder and a $500 gas card. A panel of university and media representatives will judge the contest.
Indianapolis is represented by two getaways: a "family fun" package encompassing The Children's Museum, The Indianapolis Zoo, and Fishers' Conner Prairie; and a "romance" package of dinners, carriage rides, and tours of Hendricks County wineries.
Other destinations among the 12 nominees are the Indiana dunes, Fort Wayne, Indiana Beach, Turkey Run State Park, Richmond'S Antique Alley, French Lick and West Baden, Madison and Vevay, and a combination package of Brown County, Bloomington and Columbus.
