(GARY) - Gary city leaders are trying to figure out how to cut 11-million dollars in budget cuts ordered by the state of Indiana.
Controller Celita Green said the cuts, ordered by the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance, need to be made to the city's general fund, park fund and genesis center fund.
The city reportedly didn't have enough revenue coming in to cover the amount of expenses and services. The state has suggested a series of cuts. However, Green said her office has asked to make the cuts a different way.
Meanwhile, Gary Mayor Rudy Clay said his goal is to keep the city from having to lay off any additional workers.
