(UNDATED) - Civil engineering experts say Indiana has done a good job of keeping up with bridge maintenance.
An American Society of Civil Engineers report card two years ago rated 22% of Indiana's 14,000 bridges as obsolete or structurally deficient. That's actually better than a federal goal of 25%.
And Maryo Pasarel with Mishawaka's Troyer group, a past president of ASCE's North Central Indiana branch, says state and county governments are quick to post signs when necessary to limit the weight loads that can travel on a bridge.
