(UNDATED) - The number of child deaths caused by neglect or abuse is holding steady across the state. That’s according to a report from the Indiana Department of Child Services.
53 Indiana children died from abuse and neglect between July 1, 2005, and June 30, 2006 -- the 2006 fiscal year.
The fiscal year before, 54 Indiana children had died from the same causes.
The report also revealed at least 22 of the 53 child-abuse and neglect deaths in the state last year were preventable.
