(SANTA CLAUS) - Over the past several weeks and months… police officers throughout Spencer County have been participating in training exercises by Indiana State Police troopers and Spencer County sheriff’s deputies.
Much of this training is leading up to an exercise this weekend, scheduled Saturday at South Spencer High School.
Law enforcement officers, school administrators and students will set the stage for an active shooter training scenario.
Spencer County EMA Director Al Perdue, who also serves as a reserve deputy, says the training will prepare law enforcement agencies to react in case there was a shooter in the school. He says the officers must be able to work, train and respond together.
Perdue says within Spencer County and much like any other rural area, the response to the report of a shooter in the school will likely be a multi agency response.
