(HUNTINGBURG) - When Gary Bailey set out for a vacation in the northeast he and his wife boarded their experimental plane and left the Vail, Arizona airport on October 4th with their first stop planned in Southern Indiana.
But the Bailey's never made it to Jeffersonville, instead they experienced engine failure. Air traffic controllers in Evansville directed them to the Huntingburg airport.
The couple escaped the air emergency without a scratch. Their plane safely landed at Huntingburg and last night, Bailey provided an official thank-you to the airport's governing board.
So instead of vacationing in Maine, they enjoyed some Hoosier hospitality, and dropped their tourism dollars into Southern Indiana.
For their final night's adventure...they tried their luck at French Lick and today, they return home.
An investigation is underway into the plane's engine failure .
