(INDIANAPOLIS) - The standoff with police in Bloomington caused some brief concern inside a classroom 50 miles away at IUPUI.
IUPUI Police Captain Bill Abston says a student who received a text message about the shooting thought it was on the Indianapolis campus. He told his instructor, who locked the classroom door and called police.
Abston says the students reacted appropriately with the information they had.
IUPUI spokesman Rich Schneider says the university plans to launch a student-faculty notification system by the end of the year which will send email, text, and phone messages in the event of an emergency. It will be in place for all eight IU campuses, with a database of 90-thousand people.
