(INDIANAPOLIS) - The FBI has announced the guilty plea of former Indianapolis Metro Police reserve officer Christopher Spaulding on drug trafficking-related charges.
According to FBI officials, the Bureau, the State Police and Indy Police all investigated Spaulding for around six months resulting in the charges and eventual guilty plea.
The FBI says during November of 2006, Spaulding seized $7,000 from an undercover officer posing as a Mexican drug dealer, returned half of it, and kept the other half for himself. In another incident in February of this year, FBI and state troopers placed 20 pounds of marijuana in a hotel room, and tipped Spaulding off to it. Spaulding entered the room, retrieved the marijuana, and never turned it in, instead delivering it to another undercover officer with instructions to sell it.
Spaulding plead guilty to theft of government property, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, distribution of marijuana, and 2 counts of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offence.
Spaulding was sentenced to 360 months in prison.
