(MICHIGAN CITY) - Initial autopsy results indicate Indiana death row inmate Norman Timberlake died of natural causes.
LaPorte County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Huffman says Timberlake had advanced emphysema and cirrhosis of the liver. The 60-year-old was found dead in his cell Saturday, 10 months after being spared execution.
Although the coroner's office is awaiting toxicology test results, Huffman says foul play is not suspected.
Timberlake was convicted of killing Master Trooper Michael Greene in Indianapolis in 1993. The state supreme court issued a stay of execution this January to await guidance on insanity issues.
