(ELKHART) - State officials say a new state police post will be built along the Indiana toll road, and 25 troopers will be added there to boost the law enforcement presence along the highway.
The new post will be northeast of Elkhart. A total of 70 troopers, two motor carrier inspectors, and 10 state police support staff members will use it. It's set for completion in late spring 2009.
The post will replace one about 20 miles to the west near the intersection of the toll road and U.S. 31 in South Bend.
The post also will provide office and training space for Department of Natural Resources conservation officers and regional offices for the State Department of Homeland Security and the Indiana Gaming Commission.
