(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis is getting a new mayor.
Republican Greg Ballard, a retired Marine, has unseated incumbent Democrat Bart Peterson. It will be the first time in eight years the city has had a Republican mayor.
Unlike past campaigns, Peterson ran ads attacking his opponent in recent weeks.
Ballard pointed to staggering property and income tax increases and a continued rise in violent crimes among the reasons the city needs new leadership.
