(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Mitch Daniels and Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman received a major donation Monday: 36 tons of turkey, chicken, duck and eggs.
The Indiana Poultry Association has been donating to the state's food pantries since the early '90s, when then-Lieutenant Governor Frank O'Bannon's wife Judy suggested making it a part of the O'Bannon's "Santaland" event for the needy in Indianapolis.
This year's .donations will go to the Shepherd Community Center in Indianapolis and food banks across the state.
Poultry farmers doubled last year's gift after Tyson Foods promised to match most gifts.
