(MADISON) - A lawsuit filed by three Madison women against the police and city officials is now on the way to federal court.
The lawsuit alleges the women were strip-searched during a traffic stop.
Madison Attorney Joseph Colussi says a lawsuit can go to the federal bench when there are allegations of constitutional rights violations.
Four Madison police officers are accused of following the women in separate city patrol cars. The women, all 2007 high school graduates, were then taken to a fire station and strip-searched by a female police officer.
The lawsuit also contends the city tried to cover up the incident.
