(FORT WAYNE) - All zoo workers and the animals at Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo are fine this morning following a blaze that sent flames bursting into the air.
The fire started Friday afternoon in the future home of the zoo's African journey exhibit - which is supposed to open in April 2009.
Zoo Director, Jim Anderson says a construction worker was cutting through a piece of foam with a hot wire and flames shot up. Extinguishers wouldn't work on the blaze - and it quickly grew out of control.
No damage estimate yet. The project was expected to cost 10.5 million dollars.
