(INDIANAPOLIS) - A 13 year old Indianapolis student has been arrested for having a gun at school.
The 6th grader was seen by a teacher showing an unloaded .25 caliber handgun to a classmate. The teacher confiscated the weapon and notified school police and the principal.
The boy was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school property and taken to the juvenile center. He's been suspended, pending expulsion.
IPS Spokesperson Mary Louise Bewley says prior to being taken from the school, the student told the principal that a 12 year old classmate had a bb gun in his backpack. The principal searched the backpack and did find a plastic bb gun. That student is also suspended, pending expulsion.
Parents are being notified of the incidents.
