Archdiocese And Former Priest To Appear In Court Today

Last updated on Monday, December 17, 2007

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The archdiocese of Indianapolis today will attempt to have a lawsuit dropped against a former area priest who has admitted to sexually abusing at least five boys during his tenure.

Former priest Harry Monroe and the archdiocese of Indianapolis are codefendants in 13 lawsuits, yet the cases may never move to trial.

The church is arguing that, like the statutory limit for criminal charges in the cases, the statute of limitations for the lawsuits has also expired.

Monroe has admitted to sexually abusing boys at parishes in Indianapolis, Terre Haute, and Tell City between 1974 and 1984, but says he cannot remember details about all the incidents.
