(INDIANAPOLIS) - Marion County officials plan to implement a new system to avoid to a recurrence of the case involving a 3- year-old Indianapolis girl who died while under state supervision.
TaJanay Bailey was in foster care but was returned to her natural mother despite evidence of earlier abuse, according to Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi. An autopsy showed that TaJanay, who died November 27th, had been severely beaten.
The child's mother and the mother's live- in boyfriend are being held on murder and neglect charges.
Marion County Juvenile Judge Marilyn Moores says officials want to use the county's computer- aided dispatch system as an information- sharing vehicle. If an officer is dispatched to a residence that's being monitored by child services, a "special instruction" would pop up on the computer and advise the control operator to contact DCS. The Department of Child Services would then decide whether it's something they should react to or not.
Judge Moores says there are currently 650 children on an in-home trial visitation in Marion County.
They hope to have the system in place within a week.
