(HAMMOND) - The Hammond city council has dropped funding for the city’s health department.
That could make it more difficult to obtain death certificates and burial permits that the agency issues.
Lake County Commissioner Fran Dupey says county personnel won't sign death certificates for people who die in Hammond and won't issue the burial permits needed by funeral homes to legally dispose of a body.
