(EVANSVILLE) - She’s a little over 100 pounds and could kill you in a heartbeat.
That's how Meskar Park Zoo's general curator describes its newest feline resident - a jaguar for the Amazonia exhibit.
Zoo officials there say they're taking the time right now to make sure the zoo is safe, following the tragic Christmas Day mauling at the San Francisco Zoo. In that incident, three teenagers were attacked by an escaped Siberian tiger - one of the teens died.
Meskar Park officials say their tigers are kept in large enclosed exhibits equipped with dual barriers - one for the animals and one for visitors.
The new exhibit - featuring the jaguar will open next year.
