(CROWN POINT) - Lake County officials are looking to crack down on county employees who also are paid as after-hours consultants or attorneys.
Commissioner Roosevelt Allen says the practice is similar to the reason four former trustees in Gary were indicted in September. They were charged with illegally paying themselves $143,000 out of more than $170,000 in grants intended to help train employees.
The four have pleaded innocent to federal fraud charges that they illegally augmented their regular government salaries.
