(INDIANAPOLIS) - Santa made an early visit to the patients at Riley Hospital For Children with help from the elves at the Cheer Guild.
The organization has been around since 1924. Carolyn Ashworth of the guild says their main goal is to make a child smile in the hospital, so they make sure every child leaves Riley with a toy.
The Cheer Guild operates a "secret" toy room year round at the top floor of the hospital. It's stuffed with toys and donated quilts and blankets. The room is staffed by volunteers who keep track of the inventory and buy more toys with cash donations.
Although Santa saw about 250 patients on his visit, that's a small portion of the ten thousand toys the guild gives away to Riley patients every month.
