(EVANSVILLE) - The University of Evansville will pause at noon today to remember the 29 people who died in a plane crash exactly 30-years ago.
Nearly the entire UE Purple Aces basketball team died in the crash on December 13th, 1977 when the plane went down minutes after taking off from the Evansville airport enroute to play a game at Middle Tennessee University.
UE Sports Information Director Bob Boxell says the service will begin at noon today in NEU chapel on the campus led by UE Chaplain Brien Erickson.
Boxell says the university has always been determined to make sure the people who died on the plane that night are never forgotten. The crash has become part of the historic fiber of the university.
