(SHELBYVILLE) - Shelbyville law enforcement authorities say they have been dealing with a rash of catalytic converter thefts for the last several months.
Dozens of the exhaust-system devices have been stolen in the last two months, and both commercial vehicles and residents' cars and trucks have been hit, authorities say.
Seven of the devices recently were taken from a local auto dealership in one night. The Shelbyville police department is investigating.
Scrap metal thefts have become a national problem and have risen dramatically over the past three years.
