(GARY) - Willie Harris, a former Gary city lawyer has been sentenced to 55 months in prison and ordered to make restitution for his role in a fraudulent building sale.
Harris, Lake County Council President Will Smith and Roosevelt Powell, county tax collector contractor, were convicted in September of selling a building that had been donated to another not-for-profit and keeping most of the profits.
Smith is expected to be sentenced Friday and Powell was sentenced to 37 months in prison last week for their roles.
