(FORT WAYNE) - Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry’s victory, and that of the nine members of the city council, will cost city taxpayers $400,000.
The bill is normal procedure for the county, which charged Fort Wayne $390,854 in 2003. But the expense could be eliminated by a simple proposed change. The Indiana Commission on Local Government Reform recommended moving city elections to even-numbered years.
If city elections were held in even-numbered years, when the county is already holding its election, the city wouldn't be responsible for any of the costs.
