(EVANSVILLE) - Vanderburgh County Circuit Court Magistrate David Kiely has found four employees of the Brentwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center not guilty on neglect charges.
Keily decided to dismiss the charges against Ron Gillenwater, Teresa Williams, Connie Burris and Elizabeth McCabe following a three-day trial. Their defense attorneys made the request after prosecutors wrapped up their case.
The four were charged in connection with the death of 86-year-old patient Morlene Allen in 2005. Allen died at Saint Mary's after he family claims she laid for ten-days without attention at Brentwood. The coroner says she suffered from bedsores, pneumonia and a catheter embedded in her leg.
In dismissing the charges, Kieley says prosecutors failed to prove the four employees did anything wrong. Late last week, prosecutors dismissed charges against five other Brentwood employees also indicted on neglect charges.
