State Police Issue Warning To Parents

Last updated on Tuesday, January 8, 2008

(UNDATED) - A warning for the parents of young and inexperienced drivers.

State police say you should know where your kids are going, who's in the car with them and when they'll be home.

Nationally, 15 to 20 year olds account for less than nine percent of the population. But they account for almost 14 percent of the drivers involved in fatal crashes. New research also indicates the risk of a fatal crash for young drivers is about three times higher after 9:00pm than during the daylight hours.

Fatal crashes involving alcohol are most common among drivers between 20 and 24. More than half of all passengers killed or injured--are riding in vehicles driven by young drivers, especially 16 and 17 year olds.
