(INDIANAPOLIS) - A federal study says 3.1-million people between the ages of 12 and 25 have used cold medicine to get high.
Drug-free Marion County Executive Director Randy Miller says three-percent of 6th graders report using over-the-counter medications one-to-five times a month. He says in some cases, the figures go as high as 10-percent in the higher grade levels.
The survey says many who misused cold medicines also experimented with illicit drugs.
Miller says one of the problems is that parents aren't aware of the level of usage and the types of ways their young people can begin using substances.
