(PORTLAND) - A inspirational ceremony was held for a fallen hero at Jay County High School Wednesday.
Indiana National Guard Commander General Martin Umbarger joined congressman Mike Pence and school officials in honoring the character of a Sergeant Major Jeffrey McClochlin, who was killed in combat in Afghanistan.
A plaque commemorating McClochlin was placed on their wall of character in a new school building, or at least new to the school . The building is actually a former National Guard armory and was donated by the guard to house some school offices.
Jay County Schools Superintendent Dr. Tim Long says it was a special day to honor a fallen soldier and at the same time, offer new opportunities to the school community in the building.
