(UNDATED) - Governor Daniels has promoted Dubois Superior Judge Elaine Brown to the Indiana Court of Appeals.
Brown will replace Judge John Sharpnack when he retires in May. Brown served three four-year terms as superior court judge before returning to private practice in 1999. After five years of civil and criminal defense work, she ran again for her old seat on the bench and won.
Brown says she believes her combination of extensive judicial experience and relatively recent work on the other side of the bar helped win over the judicial Nominating Commission.
The commission interviewed more than 20 nominees before sending Daniels a list of three finalists. Daniels selected Brown over Dearborn Superior Court Judge Michael Witte and Evansville attorney Leslie Shively.
