(INDIANAPOLIS) - Marion County Sheriff Frank Anderson says he believes he and new Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard both have the city’s best interests at heart, despite their recent clash over control of the Indy Metro Police Department.
Anderson and Ballard announced a deal last week restoring control of the department to the mayor. That makes Anderson the only sheriff in Indiana without crimefighting responsibilities.
The sheriff's department is still responsible for the county jail system, sex offenders registry, the communications center, and security for the city-county building.
Anderson says his goal is to be a partner in public safety.
