(TERRE HAUTE) - Personal information of nearly 2,000 Rose Hulman students was accessible on the internet for several months.
Rose-Hulman Communication Director Brian Taylor says the name, social security number and birthdates of over 1,900 students were available via a public site. He says an employee was working with the data when she accidentally posted it in a folder on the site. He says the information was in that folder since last fall and was found on February 4th by a student.
Taylor says the school's computer specialists feel the information was not accessed, however the school has told the affected students to place a fraud alert with the national credit reporting agencies.
The school says changes have been made that will not allow that kind of information to be publicly posted.
