(SHELBYVILLE) - A Shelbyville teacher is now charged with battery for allegedly kicking a 16-year-old female student.
38-year old Karen Jewell of Greenwood was suspended with pay last month. According to authorities, the world history teacher had a verbal altercation with the student after telling her to go to the principal's office.
When the student slammed the classroom door, more words were exchanged. That's when the girl claims Jewell kicked her in the lower leg.
Surveillance video showed the incident and authorities say the student has a mark on her leg from the kick.
Jewell could be arrested next week on a warrant.
