(SOUTH BEND) - A Northern Indiana police department has a whole new way to crack down on underage drinking - text messaging.
The St. Joseph County Police Department hopes to have text messaging on all officers' cellphones by the end of the month.
The goal is for parents or even teens who hear about underage drinking parties to text police before it happens. Sergeant Regis Thimons says the texts can be completely anonymous. This is merely another way to use 21st century technology to catch underage drinkers.
Texters will also be monitoring networking sites like Myspace and Facebook for party invites in the area.
