(TERRE HAUTE) - A Terre Haute mother was arrested Friday for child neglect after leaving her 6-year-old son at home for at least an hour and a half as she went for a drive in the morning.
State police were called to an apartment in Terre Haute by a 6-year-old boy who called 911 and told dispatchers he was alone and scared.
The boy would eventually be found at the International Village Apartments and was physically well and unharmed, and the mother didn't arrive until an hour and a half after the original call was placed.
24-year-old Laretha Taylor said she went on a drive by herself and that the boy was asleep when she left.
The boy was taken into protective custody by Vigo County Child Protective Services and Taylor was arrested and hit with a felony charge of child neglect, and faces up to 3 years behind bars and $10,000 in fines.
